Purpose, Function

  • The electric variable valve timing relay operates by the battery voltage after main relay energization, and supplies battery voltage to the electric variable timing motor/driver.

Construction

  • The electric variable valve timing relay is located on the relay and fuse block.

  • A normally open relay has been adopted for the electric variable valve timing relay.

  • When electric current flows to the coil, the contact point is attracted by the generated electromagnetic power and switches on.

Operation

1. Flows (1) electric current to the main relay coil based on the signals from the PCM.
2. When electric current flows to the coil, the contact point is attracted by the generated electromagnetic power and switches on (2).
3. When the contact point switches on, the battery power supply flows (3) electric current to the electric variable valve timing relay.
4. When electric current flows to the coil, the contact point is attracted by the generated electromagnetic power and switches on (4).
5. When the contact point switches on, the battery power supply flows (5) electric current to the electric variable valve timing motor/driver.
