ENGINE OIL SOLENOID VALVE [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]

Purpose, Function

  • The engine oil solenoid valve switches the hydraulic transmission passage in accordance with the driving conditions and the oil pump drive resistance is reduced by controlling oil pump discharging pressure in two steps, which suppresses an increase in excess hydraulic pressure.

Construction

  • The engine oil solenoid valve is located on the surface of the cylinder block on the right side.

  • The engine oil solenoid valve has the following parts:

Operation

  • The ball moves to the upper side by the spring force of the return spring during non-energization of the engine oil solenoid valve. When the coil is energized by a signal from the PCM, electromagnetic force, which moves the plunger to the lower side, is generated and the valve moves to the lower side and pushes the ball downward.

  • The PCM switches the oil passage in the engine solenoid valve by a control signal based on the engine operation conditions. For engine oil solenoid valve details, refer to the CONTROL SYSTEM. (See ENGINE OIL CONTROL [SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)

Low hydraulic pressure setting (engine oil solenoid valve ON)
  • When the coil is energized by a signal from the PCM, electromagnetic force is generated, which moves the plunger to the lower side, and the valve moves to the lower side and pushes the ball downward.

The oil passage to the pilot valve (inside the oil pump) from the oil pump discharge outlet opens.

High hydraulic pressure setting (engine oil solenoid valve OFF)
  • When the energization to the coil by the signal from the PCM is interrupted, the ball moves to the upper side by the spring force of the return spring.

When the oil passage to the pilot valve (inside the oil pump) from the oil pump discharge outlet closes, the oil passage to the oil pan from the pilot valve (inside the oil pump) opens.

Fail-safe

DTC

Fail-safe
