KNOCK SENSOR (KS) [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]

Purpose

  • Detects abnormal combustion in the cylinder as basic information for mainly determining the ignition timing.

Function

  • Detects engine vibration caused by abnormal combustion in the combustion chamber and sends the output voltage based on the strength of the vibration to the PCM as a knocking signal.

    KS characteristic

Construction

  • The KS is located on the cylinder block.

  • A piezoelectric element has been adopted for the detection area of the KS.

  • A piezoelectric element produces voltage by the application of vibration or pressure. Using this characteristic, the sensor outputs vibration caused by abnormal combustion as voltage.

Operation

1. The KS detects (1) abnormal combustion.
2. The KS sends (2) the detected abnormal combustion to the PCM as a knocking signal.

Fail-safe

DTC No.

Fail-safe function

P0327:00

  • Sets the knocking spark retard correction value of the ignition control to the fixed value.

P0328:00

  • Sets the knocking spark retard correction value of the ignition control to the fixed value.
