THROTTLE POSITION (TP) SENSOR [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]

Purpose

  • The TP sensor detects the actual throttle valve opening angle.

Function

  • The TP sensor sends the throttle valve opening angle to the PCM as a throttle valve position signal.

  • For the throttle valve position signal, main (No.1) and sub (No.2) signals of different characteristics have been adopted to enhance sensor malfunction detection accuracy.

    TP sensor characteristic

Construction

  • The TP sensor is built into the throttle body and coaxially arranged with the throttle valve shaft.

  • Non-contact hall elements have been adopted for the detection area of the TP sensor.

  • The Hall elements detect the magnetic field which changes as the shaft rotates and outputs it as a voltage value.

Operation

1. The TP sensor detects (1) the throttle valve opening angle.
2. The TP sensor sends (2) the detected throttle valve opening angle to the PCM as a throttle valve position main (No.1) and sub (No.2) signals.

Fail-safe

DTC No.
