FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]

Purpose

  • Detects the pressure inside the fuel tank for the system diagnosis of the evaporative emission (EVAP) control system.

  • The PCM determines the following conditions by checking the variation in the pressure of the passage that suctions the evaporative gas.

    • Gas leakage and blockage from passage

    • Leakage from fuel tank

    • Fuel-filler cap not closed

Function

  • Detects the pressure in the fuel tank and sends it to the PCM as a fuel tank pressure signal.

    Fuel tank pressure sensor characteristic

Construction

  • The fuel tank pressure sensor is located on the charcoal canister.

  • A piezoelectric element has been adopted for the detection area of the fuel tank pressure sensor.

  • A piezoelectric element generates voltage when force such as vibration or pressure is applied to it. Using this characteristic, the sensor detects the pressure inside the fuel tank and outputs it as a voltage value.

  • The fuel tank pressure sensor detects the positive/negative pressure in the fuel tank by comparing the pressure on the atmospheric side with the pressure on the charcoal canister side.

Operation

1. The fuel tank pressure sensor detects (1) the pressure inside the fuel tank.
2. The sensor sends (2) the detected pressure inside the fuel tank to the PCM as a fuel tank pressure signal.

Fail-safe

  • Not applicable
