VENTILATION SYSTEM

Outline

  • The ventilation system switches airflow sent from the blower motor and sends air to the air vent.

Functions

  • The ventilation system changes the volume of airflow passing through the heater core by the movement of the air mix damper.

  • The ventilation system switches the air vent by opening/closing each mode door.

Head-cold feet-warm function
  • When the airflow mode is set to bi-level and the airflow temperature setting is near medium temperature, the airflow is divided into airflow passing through the heater core and airflow not passing through the heater core by the air mix damper.

    • The airflow passing through the heater core flows to the heat vents.

    • The airflow not passing through the heater core flows to the air vents of the center vents and side vents.

  • Warm air flows from the heat air vents and comparatively lower temperature air flows from the center and side vents.

  • When the airflow temperature setting is near MAX COLD, MAX HOT, there is no difference in airflow temperature from the air vent by the up/down movement of the air mix damper.

Construction

  • The ventilation system consists of the following parts.

Operation

Air mix damper
  • The air mix actuator operates according to the temperature control dial operation or the automatic control of the climate control unit.

  • The air mix damper moves up and down according to the operation of the air mix actuator.

  • Airflow changes as follows by the up/down movement of the air mix damper.

    • Air mix damper moves in down direction: Passes through the evaporator and flows to the air distribution unit with low temperature air.

    • Air mix damper moves in up direction: The airflow passing through the evaporator passes through the heater core and flows to the air distribution unit with warm air.

Airflow mode door
  • The airflow mode actuator operates according to the MODE dial operation or automatic control of the climate control unit.

  • The airflow mode main link operates in conjunction with the airflow mode actuator operation.

  • The mode door opens/closes and the air vent switches to the vent, bi-level, heat, defroster/heat, or defroster according to the operation of the mode main link.

  • The airflow switched by each mode door passes through the ducts and flows from each air vent shown in the figure to the cabin.
