SWIVEL ACTUATOR

Purpose

  • When the headlights are on, the swivel actuator drives the motor based on the signal from the adaptive front lighting system (AFS) control module to change the direction of the optical axis of the headlights according to the steering wheel operation.

Functions

  • The swivel actuator constantly detects the headlight swivel angle from the Hall sensor built into the actuator, and inputs the swivel angle to the adaptive front lighting system (AFS) control module via LIN communication.

Construction

  • The swivel actuator is built into the front combination lights.

  • The swivel actuator has an integrated Hall sensor.

Operation

1. The adaptive front lighting system (AFS) control module sends (1) the target headlight optical axis signal to the swivel actuator based on the headlight current position signal from the swivel actuator.
2. The swivel actuator calculates the amount of motor drive based on the target headlight optical axis signal from the adaptive front lighting system (AFS) control module and drives (2) the motor until the optical axis reaches the target headlight optical axis position.
3. The motor is powered to move the reflector left and right and change (3) the optical axis.
4. The swivel actuator detects the current position of the headlights based on the Hall sensor, and sends (4) the headlight current position signal to the adaptive front lighting system (AFS) control module.

Fail-safe

  • Not applicable
