PARKING BRAKE LEVER ADJUSTMENT

With AT Vehicles

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
2. Disengage the shift panel compartment from the rear console. ( SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION)
3. Rotate the shift panel compartment in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure.

4. Remove the upper panel. (See UPPER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
5. Pump the brake pedal a few times.
6. Turn the adjusting nut and adjust the parking brake lever. (See PARKING BRAKE LEVER INSPECTION.)

7. After adjustment, pull the parking brake lever one notch and verify that the brake system warning light illuminates.
8. Release the parking brake.
9. Verify that the rear brakes do not drag.

With MT Vehicles

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
2. Remove the following parts:
a. Shift lever knob (See TRANSMISSION REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [M66M-D].)
b. Shift panel component (See SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
c. Upper panel (See UPPER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
3. Pump the brake pedal a few times.
4. Turn the adjusting nut and adjust the parking brake lever. (See PARKING BRAKE LEVER INSPECTION.)

5. After adjustment, pull the parking brake lever one notch and verify that the brake system warning light illuminates.
6. Release the parking brake.
7. Verify that the rear brakes do not drag.
