NO.25 ENGINE STALLS WHEN DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED OR STOPPING [SJ6A-EL]

25

Engine stalls when driving at slow speed or stopping

DESCRIPTION

  • Engine stalls when the brake pedal is depressed while driving at low speed or stopping.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

  • The malfunction is in the engine control system (e.g. Fuel injection control, electronic controlled throttle system). Otherwise the TCC circuit.

    • TCC solenoid improper operation

      • Incorrect accelerator pedal position signal

      • Incorrect engine speed signal

      • Incorrect brake switch signal

    • Oil cooler malfunction (Foreign material mixed in ATF)

    • ATF amount is low

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1

  • Perform the symptom troubleshooting “NO.10 LOW IDLE/STALLS DURING DECELERATION”.

    (See NO.10 LOW IDLE/STALLS DURING DECELERATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)

  • Is the engine control system normal?

Yes

Perform the symptom troubleshooting “NO.24 ENGINE STALLS WHEN SHIFTED TO D OR R POSITION”.

(See NO.24 ENGINE STALLS WHEN SHIFTED TO D OR R POSITION [SJ6A-EL].)

No

Repair or replace the malfunctioning part according to the inspection results.

  • Access TCM PID SSLU_C using the M-MDS.

  • Operate the TCC solenoid value by M-MDS simulation function.

  • Does the TCC solenoid value operate properly?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Replace the control valve body.

  • Access the following PCM and TCM PIDs using the M-MDS.

    (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC TEST [PCM (SKYACTIV-G 2.0)].)

    (See ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM PID/DATA MONITOR INSPECTION [TCM (SJ6A-EL)].)

    • PCM PIDs:
    • APP

    • TP_REL

    • ECT

    • BOO

      TCM PIDs:
    • TSS

    • OSS

    • VSS

  • Are PIDs value normal?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Inspect and repair suspect PID related part and wiring harness.

  • Perform the oil cooler flushing by air blow.

    (See OIL COOLER FLUSHING [SJ6A-EL].)

  • Are there any foreign materials from oil cooler?

Yes

Clean the oil cooler and cooler line.

No

Repair the torque converter.

(See TORQUE CONVERTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SJ6A-EL].)

  • Verify test results.

    • If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.

    • If malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Bulletins and/or On-line Repair Information and perform repair or diagnosis.

      • If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting completed.

      • If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the TCM. (See TCM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SJ6A-EL].)
