THERMOSTAT [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]

Purpose, Function

  • When the engine coolant temperature is low, the thermostat blocks the engine coolant passage between the radiator and engine. As a result, faster engine warm-up is promoted because engine coolant cycles without passing through the radiator.

Construction

  • The thermostat is located on the water pump.

  • The thermostat has the following parts:

  • The jiggle pin facilitates the air bleeding in the engine coolant passage when engine coolant is supplied.

Operation

1. When the engine coolant temperature is low, the thermostat valve closes and engine coolant circulates without passing through the radiator.

2. When the engine coolant temperature is 86.5—89.5°C {188—193°F}, the thermostat valve starts to open and the engine coolant passed through the radiator flows to the engine.
