INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE (IAT) SENSOR [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]

Outline

  • Detects the intake air temperature before and after it passes through the throttle body to enhance the accuracy of the fuel injection control.

IAT sensor No.1

Purpose
  • Detects the intake air temperature before it passes through the throttle body (just after passing the air cleaner) as basic information for mainly determining the fuel injection amount.

Function
  • Indicates the resistance value according to the intake air temperature just after it passes through the air cleaner.

    IAT sensor No.1 characteristic

Construction
  • The IAT sensor No.1 is integrated with the MAF sensor.

  • A thermistor has been adopted for the detection area of IAT sensor No.1.

  • A thermistor is a resistor element in which changes in the electrical resistance are large relative to the temperature change. Using this characteristic, the sensor detects the intake air temperature as a resistance value.

Operation
1. IAT sensor No.1 detects (1) the intake air temperature.
2. The PCM detects (2) the intake air temperature based on the voltage from IAT sensor No.1.

Fail-safe

DTC No.

Fail-safe function

P0112:00

  • Fixes the intake air temperature (for engine control) at 20 °C {68 °F}.

  • Inhibits the fuel cut control during shift change.

P0113:00

  • Fixes the intake air temperature (for engine control) at 20 °C {68 °F}.

  • Inhibits the fuel cut control during shift change.

IAT sensor No.2

Purpose
  • Detects the intake air temperature after it passes through the throttle body (in intake manifold) as basic information for mainly determining the fuel injection amount.

Function
  • Indicates the resistance value according to the intake air temperature after it passes through the throttle body (intake manifold).

IAT sensor No.2 characteristic

Construction
  • The IAT sensor No.2 is integrated with the MAP sensor.

  • A thermistor has been adopted for the detection area of IAT sensor No.2.

  • A thermistor is a resistor element in which changes in the electrical resistance is large against temperature change. Using this characteristic, the sensor detects the intake air temperature as a resistance value.

Operation
1. IAT sensor No.2 detects (1) the intake air temperature.
2. The PCM detects (2) the intake air temperature based on the voltage from IAT sensor No.2.

Fail-safe
  • Not applicable
