ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION (APP) SENSOR [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]

Purpose

  • Detects the accelerator pedal depression amount as basic information for mainly determining the throttle valve opening.

Function

  • Detects the accelerator pedal depression amount and sends it to the PCM as an accelerator pedal position signal.

  • For the accelerator pedal position signal, main (No.1) and sub (No.2) signals of different characteristics have been adopted to enhance detection accuracy.

    APP sensor characteristic

Construction

  • The APP sensor is built into the accelerator pedal.

  • An electromagnetic induction action applied to a non-contact type has been adopted to the detection area of the APP sensor.

Detection principle
  • When current flows to the energizing coil from the IC, the receiving coil generates voltage which causes electromagnetic induction between the energizing coil, the rotor coil and the receiving coil.

  • When the rotor coil positional relationship changes, the generated voltage changes.

Operation

1. The TP sensor detects (1) the accelerator pedal depression amount.
2. The TP sensor sends (2) the detected accelerator pedal depression amount to the PCM as accelerator pedal position main (No.1) and sub (No.2) signals.

Fail-safe

DTC No.

Fail-safe function

P2122:00

  • Regulates the upper limit of the APP sensor output.

P2123:00

  • Regulates the upper limit of the APP sensor output.

P2127:00

  • Regulates the upper limit of the APP sensor output.

P2128:00

  • Regulates the upper limit of the APP sensor output.

P2138:00

  • Restricts the upper limit of the engine speed.

  • Stops the drive-by-wire control (throttle valve is open at approx. 8° by return spring force).
