DTC C101C:72 [EVP CONTROL UNIT]

DTC

C101C:72

Electric vacuum pump: logic inconsistent

DETECTION CONDITION

  • Control status and the PID value of electric vacuum pump relay 1 or 2 (built into EVP control unit) do not correspond for a continuous 0.2 s.

FAIL-SAFE FUNCTION

  • Refer to “Fail-safe function table”. (See DTC TABLE [EVP CONTROL UNIT].)

POSSIBLE CAUSE

  • EVP control unit power supply circuit malfunction

  • Improper operation of electric vacuum pump relay 1 (built-into EVP control unit)

  • Improper operation of electric vacuum pump relay 2 (built-into EVP control unit)

  • EVP control unit malfunction

Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Action

1

RECORD SNAPSHOT DATA AND DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS TO UTILIZE WITH REPEATABILITY VERIFICATION

NOTE:

  • Recording can be facilitated using the screen capture function of the PC.

  • Record the snapshot data and DIAGNOSTIC MONITORING TEST RESULTS (fuel system related) on the repair order.

—

Go to the next step.

2

VERIFY IF DIAGNOSTIC RESULT IS AFFECTED BY OTHER RELATED DTCs OCCURRING
  • Using the M-MDS, perform the EVP control unit DTC inspection.

(See DTC INSPECTION [EVP CONTROL UNIT].)

  • Are following DTCs detected?

    • C1035:11

    • C1035:12

    • C1035:13

    • C1036:11

    • C1036:12

    • C1036:13

    • C101C:00

    • C101C:18

    • C101C:71

    • C101C:73

Yes

Go to the applicable DTC inspection.

(See DTC TABLE [EVP CONTROL UNIT].)

No

Go to the next step.

3

DETERMINE IF EVP CONTROL UNIT POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION
  • Switch the ignition ON (engine off).

  • Access the VPWR PID using the M-MDS.

  • Verify the VPWR PID value.

  • Is the VPWR PID value B+?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Perform the DTC U3003:16 procedures.

(See DTC C101B:16/C101B:17 [EVP CONTROL UNIT].)

4

DETERMINE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS PAST OR PRESENT

NOTE:

  • When clearing the DTC, the snap shot data is also cleared at the same time. Snap shot data is recorded if it is not recorded in Step 1.

  • Using the M-MDS, clear the DTC from the EVP control unit.

(See CLEARING DTC [EVP CONTROL UNIT].)

  • Switch the ignition ON (engine off).

  • Access the following PIDs using the M-MDS.

    • VPS_FBK

    • VPR1_V

    • VPR2_V

  • Access the simulation item VPS_FBK using the M-MDS.

  • Verify PID values when the electric vacuum pump is operated by simulation item VPS_FBK.

  • Operate the electric vacuum pump, and are all PIDs on?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Replace the EVP control unit, then go to Step 7.

(See EVP CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

5

DRIVE VEHICLE THEN VERIFY DTC REPEATABILITY BASED ON SERVICE QUESTIONING RESULTS AND SNAP SHOT DATA
  • Switch the ignition ON (engine off).

  • Access the following EVP control unit PIDs using the M-MDS:

    • VPS_FBK

    • VPR1_V

    • VPR2_V

    • VPWR

  • Drive the vehicle based on the service questions content and snap shot data driving conditions.

  • Is the displayed PID value as follows?

    • VPWR: B+

    • VPS_FBK, VPR1_V, VPR2_V: On/Off display corresponds

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

If the VPWR PID is not B+:
  • Inspect the EVP control unit power supply circuit.

  • Repair or replace the malfunctioning part.

If VPS_FBK, VPR1_V and VPR2_V PID values do not correspond:
  • Replace the EVP control unit.

    (See EVP CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

Go to Step 7.

6

VERIFY DTC REPEATABILITY AND DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS EVP CONTROL UNIT
  • Using the M-MDS, clear the DTC from the EVP control unit.

(See CLEARING DTC [EVP CONTROL UNIT].)

  • Switch the ignition ON (engine off).

  • Using the M-MDS, perform the EVP control unit DTC inspection.

(See DTC INSPECTION [EVP CONTROL UNIT].)

  • Is the same DTC present?

Yes

Replace the EVP control unit, then go to the next step.

(See EVP CONTROL UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

No

DTC troubleshooting completed.

Explain to the customer that there are no malfunctions with the vehicle based on the contents of the servicing.

7

VERIFY NO DTC IS PRESENT
  • Are any DTCs present?

Yes

Go to the applicable DTC inspection.

(See DTC TABLE [EVP CONTROL UNIT].)

No

DTC troubleshooting completed.
