HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP [SKYACTIV-G 2.0]
Purpose, Function
The high pressure fuel pump is used for the direct fuel injection system. Fuel, with a pressure of 450 kPa {4.59 kgf/cm2, 65.3 psi}, from the fuel pump built into the fuel tank is boosted up to 20 MPa {204 kgf/cm2, 2901 psi}, and it is pumped to the fuel distributor in an easily atomizable state.
Construction
Operation
Fuel is suctioned and pumped by the up and down movement of the piston caused by the rotation of the cam installed to the rear end of the exhaust camshaft.
Based on the control signal from the PCM, the spill valve control solenoid valve opens and closes in the high pressure fuel pump.
If the spill valve control solenoid valve malfunctions and the fuel pressure exceeds the specified value, the relief valve opens to assure safety.
For the high pressure fuel pump control details, refer to the [CONTROL SYSTEM]. (See HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP CONTROL [SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)
