CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

CAUTION:

  • Do not allow clutch fluid to get on a painted surface. Clutch fluid contains properties which can dissolve the paint. If clutch fluid gets on a painted surface, rinse with water immediately, then wipe the area dry.

Removal

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.(See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
2. Remove the following parts:
a. Shift lever knob (See TRANSMISSION REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [M66M-D].)
b. Shift panel component (See SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
c. Upper panel (See UPPER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
d. Parking brake lever boot panel (See PARKING BRAKE LEVER BOOT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
e. Rear console (See REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
f. Front console panel (See FRONT CONSOLE PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
g. Driver-side side wall (See SIDE WALL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
h. Driver-side scuff plate (See SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
i. Driver-side front side trim (See FRONT SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
j. Driver-side A-pillar trim (See A-PILLAR TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
k. Bonnet release lever (See HOOD RELEASE LEVER AND RELEASE CABLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
l. Driver-side lower panel (See DRIVER-SIDE LOWER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
m. Accelerator pedal (See ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)
n. Electrical supply unit (ESU) cover (See ELECTRICAL SUPPLY UNIT (ESU) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
3. Disconnect the connector on the vehicle wiring harness side for the starter interlock switch.

4. Remove the clutch pedal position switch. (See CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
5. Remove the starter interlock switch. (See STARTER INTERLOCK SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
6. Disconnect the clutch pipe No.1 from clutch master cylinder, and plug it to avoid clutch fluid leakage. (See CLUTCH PIPE AND HOSE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
7. Disconnect the clutch reserve hose from clutch master cylinder, and plug it to avoid clutch fluid leakage. (See CLUTCH PIPE AND HOSE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
8. Remove the clutch master cylinder using the following procedure:
a. Remove the clutch pedal. (See CLUTCH PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
b. Rotate the clutch master cylinder in the direction of the arrow shown in the figure to disconnect the clutch master cylinder (body) and clutch pedal.

c. Disengage the tabs of the push rod and remove the clutch master cylinder.

Installation

1. Install the clutch master cylinder using the following procedure:
a. Engage the tabs of the push rod with the clutch pedal as shown in the figure.

b. Rotate the clutch master cylinder in the direction shown until it stops.

c. Install the clutch pedal. (See CLUTCH PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
2. Connect the clutch reserve hose to clutch master cylinder. (See CLUTCH PIPE AND HOSE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
3. Connect the clutch pipe No.1 to clutch master cylinder. (See CLUTCH PIPE AND HOSE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
4. Bleed the air from the clutch system.(See CLUTCH FLUID REPLACEMENT/AIR BLEEDING.)
5. Inspect the clutch pedal height, and verify that the clutch pedal is installed correctly. (See CLUTCH PEDAL INSPECTION.)
6. Install a new starter interlock switch. (See STARTER INTERLOCK SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
7. Install a new clutch pedal position switch. (See CLUTCH PEDAL POSITION SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
8. Connect the connector on the vehicle wiring harness side for the starter interlock switch.

9. Install the following parts:
a. Electrical supply unit (ESU) cover (See ELECTRICAL SUPPLY UNIT (ESU) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
b. Accelerator pedal (See ACCELERATOR PEDAL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [SKYACTIV-G 2.0].)
c. Driver-side lower panel (See DRIVER-SIDE LOWER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
d. Bonnet release lever (See HOOD RELEASE LEVER AND RELEASE CABLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
e. Driver-side A-pillar trim (See A-PILLAR TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
f. Driver-side front side trim (See FRONT SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
g. Driver-side scuff plate (See SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
h. Driver-side side wall (See SIDE WALL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
i. Front console panel (See FRONT CONSOLE PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
j. Rear console (See REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
k. Parking brake lever boot panel (See PARKING BRAKE LEVER BOOT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
l. Upper panel (See UPPER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
m. Shift panel component (See SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
n. Shift lever knob (See TRANSMISSION REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [M66M-D].)
10. Connect the negative battery cable.(See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
11. Fully depress the clutch pedal, and verify that the engine starts.
