PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM]

WARNING:

  • Handling the passenger-side air bag module improperly can accidentally operate (deploy) the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read the air bag system service warnings and cautions before handling the passenger-side air bag module. (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE WARNINGS [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].) (See AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE CAUTIONS [STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM].)

1. Switch the ignition off.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)
3. Remove the following parts:
a. Passenger-side scuff plate (See SCUFF PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
b. Passenger-side front side trim (See FRONT SIDE TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
c. Passenger-side A-pillar trim (See A-PILLAR TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
d. Passenger-side lower panel (See PASSENGER-SIDE LOWER PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
4. Remove the screw.

5. Remove the side duct.
6. Remove the duct.
7. Remove the following parts:
a. Auto leveling control module (without adaptive front lighting system (AFS)) (See AUTO LEVELING CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
b. Adaptive front lighting system (AFS) control module (with adaptive front lighting system (AFS)) (See ADAPTIVE FRONT LIGHTING SYSTEM (AFS) CONTROL MODULE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
c. Air mix actuator. (See AIR MIX ACTUATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [FULL-AUTO AIR CONDITIONER].)(See AIR MIX ACTUATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MANUAL AIR CONDITIONER].)
8. Remove the bolt.

9. Remove the earth.
10. Using a flathead screwdriver, lift the locking device carefully, however do not remove it.

11. Disconnect the passenger-side air bag module connector.
12. Remove the screws.

13. Remove the nuts.
14. Move the passenger-side air bag module in the direction of arrow (2) shown in the figure and detach guides A from the air bag case while spreading the air bag case in the direction of arrow (1).

15. Move the passenger-side air bag module in the direction of the arrow (3) and detach guides B from the air bag case.

16. Move the passenger-side air bag module in the direction of the arrow (4), and remove the passenger-side air bag module.
17. Install in the reverse order of removal.
18. Switch the ignition ON (engine off or on).
19. Verify that the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light illuminates for approx. 6 s and turns off.
  • If the air bag/seat belt pre-tensioner system warning light does not operate normally, refer to the on-board diagnostic system (air bag system) and perform inspection of the system. (See FLOWCHART [SAS CONTROL MODULE (STANDARD DEPLOYMENT CONTROL SYSTEM)].)
