FUEL-FILLER LID LOCK DOES NOT OPERATE [SECURITY AND LOCKS]

Description

  • Fuel-filler lid cannot be locked/unlocked using the door key cylinder.

  • Fuel-filler lid cannot be locked/unlocked using the driver's door lock knob.

Possible Causes

  • Fuel-filler lid actuator malfunction

  • Open circuit in wiring harness between the following terminals:

    • Electrical supply unit (ESU) terminal 1B and fuel-filler lid actuator terminal B

    • Electrical supply unit (ESU) terminal 1C and fuel-filler lid actuator terminal A

Diagnostic Procedure

Step

Inspection

Action

1

DETERMINE IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE IS DOOR LOCK
  • Perform the lock/unlock operation using the lock knob for the driver’s door or door key cylinder.

  • Is the door lock/unlock for all doors switched normally?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Refer to “door lock does not operate” symptom troubleshooting and perform the inspection.

(See DOOR LOCK DOES NOT OPERATE [SECURITY AND LOCKS].)

2

INSPECT DOOR-RELATED WIRING HARNESS WITH MALFUNCTION (OPEN CIRCUIT)
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable.

    (See NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION.)

  • Disconnect the fuel-filler lid lock actuator connector.

  • Disconnect the ESU connector.

  • Inspect for continuity between the electrical supply unit (ESU) for the door which could not lock/unlock and the fuel-filler lid lock actuator.

    • Electrical supply unit (ESU) terminal 1B and fuel-filler lid lock actuator terminal B

    • Electrical supply unit (ESU) terminal 1C and fuel-filler lid lock actuator terminal A

  • Is there continuity?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

  • Refer to the wiring diagram and verify if there is a common connector between the following terminals.

    • Electrical supply unit (ESU) terminal 1B and fuel-filler lid lock actuator terminal B

    • Electrical supply unit (ESU) terminal 1C and fuel-filler lid lock actuator terminal A

      • If there is a common connector:
      • Inspect the common connector and terminals for corrosion, damage, or disconnection and the common wiring harnesses for an open circuit to determine the malfunctioning location.

      • Repair or replace the malfunctioning location.

If there is no common connector:
      • Repair or replace the wiring harness which has an open circuit.

  • Go to Step 4.

3

    INSPECT FUEL-FILLER LID LOCK ACTUATOR
  • Inspect the fuel-filler lid lock actuator.

(See FUEL-FILLER LID LOCK ACTUATOR INSPECTION.)

  • Is the fuel-filler lid lock actuator normal?

Yes

Go to the next step.

No

Replace the fuel-filler lid lock actuator, then go to the next step.

(See FUEL-FILLER LID LOCK ACTUATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

4

VERIFY IF MALFUNCTION CAUSE WAS CORRECTED
  • Has the malfunction symptom been eliminated?

Yes

Troubleshooting completed.

(Explain the contents of the servicing to the customer.)

No

Verify the malfunction symptom in the symptom troubleshooting chart and perform the applicable other malfunction diagnosis.

(See SYMPTOM TROUBLESHOOTING ITEM TABLE [SECURITY AND LOCKS].)
